Otto Warburg, MD

Dr. Otto Warburg was nominated for the Nobel Prize 47 times, and was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1931 for discovering the cause of cancer in his research on cellular respiration.

He found that cancer grows in an acidic and hypoxic milieu.

He was able to both cause and cure cancer by controlling oxygen availability. 

Cancer cell respiration is limited to fermentation in the cytoplasm... The mitochondria, which produce over 90% of the ATP in a healthy cell, are not functional.

The fact that cancer cells continue to ferment lactate even in the presence of oxygen, a phenomenon known as the Warburg effect, confirms the fundamental mitochondrial dysfunction.
